Test
For patients on Isolation Precautions: - answerAll responses are correct for patients on
Isolation Precautions.
Feedback
The meter is taken into the patient's room and inserted into a plastic bag at an angle so
that the top of the meter (where the strip is inserted) is in one corner of the bag. Cut the
corner of the bag so that the strip can be inserted when prompted by the instrument.
Scan patient's armband. Scan bottle from which strip was removed. Once testing is
completed, the test strip, bag and gloves can be discarded in the room. Take the meter
out of the room and clean with an approved germicidal wipe.
Once patient test is complete, remove and discard the strip. What is the next step? -
answerPress the ACCEPT button and clean the meter

Test results will appear in 6 seconds. Remove strip manually or use ejector button on
meter. To accept the result, press the ACCEPT soft key. This will prevent the result
from being delayed in the Point of Care Data Management system. The StatStrip meter
should be cleaned and disinfected after each use.
During a computer or Point of Care downtime, glucose results can be found: -

It is acceptable to borrow another staff member's name badge to scan as an Operator

It is NEVER acceptable to use another staff's operator ID. If your ID is not accepted by
the glucose meter, there is a reason testing should not be performed. Contact the Point
of Care office to investigate. EHC policy STRICTLY prohibits the use of your Logon ID
by anyone other than yourself.
