In use from about 1959 to the mid-60's, used transistors, which were
much smaller than vacuum tubes, consumed less power, and ran
cooler. These computers are still large as a room, they were called
mainframes. Machine languages representing instructions in binary
(0s and 1s) were replaced by assembly languages that specified
