Jack becomes the leader of the hunters but longs for total power. Simon ️️A shy, sensitive boy in the group. Piggy ️️Ralph's "lieutenant." A whiny, intellectual boy, Piggy represents the scientific, rational side of civilization. Roger ️️Jack's "lieutenant." A sadistic, cruel older boy who brutalizes the littluns and eventually murders Piggy by rolling a boulder onto him. Who was responsible for letting the fire go out? ️️Jack and the choir Who was crying out something about a body on the hill as he was attacked? ️️Simon Whose constant references about his "Auntie" reveals that he likes rules and order? ️️Piggy What character denounces the "power" of the conch? ️️Jack The conch ️️A symbol of power and civility, used to call order among the boys and allows one to talk when it is in his possession. Piggy's glasses ️️They represent intelligent, rational thought; a sign of a supposedly civilized world. "Lord of the Flies" ️️The name given to the sow's head that Jack's gang impales on a stake and erects in the forest as an offering to the "beast." The Lord of the Flies comes to symbolize the primordial instincts of power and cruelty that take control of Jack's tribe. It "speaks" to Simon. The "beast" ️️This really was what was inside the boys - their savage potential - but the kids think it is really the parachute man. This symbol was repeatedly taken from Piggy and represents survival.
