I, _________, having been appointed an Ensign in the United States Navy, do
hereby accept such appointment and do solemnly swear that I will support and
defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and
domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this
obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that
I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about
to enter. [so help me God.]

develops and uses national resources to achieve them.
Define the operational level of war
Links strategy and tactics by establishing theatre objectives needed to achieve

The ordered arrangement and maneuver of comabt elements in relation to each
other and the enemy to achieve combat objectives.
Define sea control
The stablishment of superiority in a regional maritime domain while denying an
adversary that same ability.
Define littoral warfare
Utilizing naval forces to strike, control, or deny access to the near-coastal
regions.

Purpose of surface warfare
Denying the enemy effective use of surface warships and merchant maritime
traffic.
Purpose of Anti-Air Warfare
To achieve air dominance through the destruction or neutralization of enemy air
forces including aircraft and missile threats.
Purpose of Balistic Missile Defense
To deny the enemy the effective delivery of ballistic missiles in defense of the
fleet, or allied/home territory.
Purpose of Undersea Warfare
To establish dominance in the undersea portion of the maritime domain, which
permits friendly forces to operate throughout and denies the enemy effective use
of underwater systems and weapons. This includes submarine, anti-submarine
(ASW), and mine warfare assets.
Purpose of Mine Warfare
To control or deny the use of startegic sea choke points or harbor access areas
through the depoloyment of mines and countering enemy mine warfare through
the destruction and neutralization of hostile minefields.
