● It’s because they established a democracy

● Uniqueness between cultures

● Cycladic female figure
● Their backs are flat
● Rather large, 1-2ft
● Shiny marble
● Female figure holding stomach
● Symmetrical
● Breast, nose, and chin are the only things carved out
● Those are the things that provide shape
● Looked at as primitive
● Saw these sculptures as very radical in the 1800’s
● They found the simple forms made it radical
● Why not a circular face ?
● They probably found it visually pleasing
● So far it is all women sculptures
