Mobile apps development - Assignment 2
Brief introduction/user requirements:
In this assignment, I will be working as a junior programmer for an educational charity to support
young children in developing a game containing the maths skills. Additionally, I will successfully
develop a mobile app to help children improve their mental arithmetic and being able to reinforce
their knowledge.

Furthermore, my maths application should run the game which must give users to answer a series of
simple random arithmetic questions to include addition, subtraction, division and multiplication with
also using whole number between 1 and 12. However, subtraction and division would not be
producing negative answers.

Moreover, each level should have a minimum of 10 questions with four multiple choice selection for
users to choose. Also, the score will be shown once users answer each question and it will be
displayed at the top right corner. My maths game application will provide three levels where the first
level will not require a time limit whereas the other two will be consisted. For level 1, the time limit
will only be 20 second each question and level 2 will have 10 second to answer every question inside
this level. This will make the game difficulty slightly difficult but will help to boost user’s skills.

Lastly, my app will include appropriate graphics and sounds to make it more entertaining for young
children. Therefore, designing my mobile app will be my very first start to allow every young child to
enhance their maths skills.

Targeting audience and platforms:

The target audience for my application development will be aimed at young children between the
ages of 8 – 15. This specific age criteria will be the best appropriate decision as the application I am
going to design would be fun and interactive-related. In relation to my intending audience, I will be
aiming to reveal and publish my mobile application to different platforms such as IOS and even
windows if possible. These improvements will make it much beneficial to me as more young children
will be able to search and download the app on multiple platforms which will increase popularity at
the same time.

Device capabilities:

, Name: John Atkinson Unit 7 – Learning aim B/C Date: 16/04/2019

My maths game will have device capabilities, and these will provide orientation which would enable
users to switch both vertically and horizontally to suit their needs and for much more comfortable
play. Also, the other device capability that I could use is photometer and users can use this to auto
adjust screen brightness which can enhance readability and conserve power.

Inputs required for my application:

There will be inputs required when I start to design my maths game app and one of these will be
touch screen as this would help me to navigate to around the display by tapping and interacting the
screen of the device. Furthermore, there will be a timed event where my application will have a
limited time when users start to select an answer. From this, they would have to answer before their
time runs out and it could be challenging for some of those because they may need extra time.

Outputs required for my application:
The outputs that are needed for my application design are audio and vibration. Vibration is strongly
essential as my application would need some reaction to inform users of any offers or discounts to
be made. Occasionally, it can also be useful when they are travelling as they could get notified when
their devices are in their bags or pockets. The vibration works by the small motor that is found with
other components inside the phone which implies that the irregular weight causes the device to
vibrate when the motor rotates.

The audio is also a necessary requirement as my game application would need sound while the game
is being played. This type of output will be useful for adding sound effects and would give a feedback
that the action has been registered such as users tapping on buttons and it would play a sound
repeatedly each time user’s tap on selection of the game.

User needs:
For the user needs, accessibility would be taken into consideration and this would enlarge the
opportunity to bring those that have difficulties when they play the game. One of the accessibilities
will include larger touch targets which would give users the ability to make ease of use when they
navigate through my maths application. The other accessibility that could be considered is avoiding
low contrast ratios which would ensure that UI elements are clearly unique for users with colour-
blindness.
