P3: Apple & UNICEF
Describe how two businesses are organized?

For this assignment I am going to describe how two businesses are organized. I have chosen for a
profit company called Apple headquarted in California and a non-profit organisation called UNICEF
headquarted in New York.

There are two main reasons why there is an organizational structure. First, it is to ensure work is
delegated to specific people; division of work for a business to run smooth. The length of line of
control also determines how responsive a firm is to a change, lines of communication are the routes
messages travel along.

There are four different organizational structures: Functional, Geographic, Product and Type of
Customer. A functional structure is set up so that each part of the organization is grouped according
to its purpose, each department can rely on the knowledge of its workers. A Geographical structure
allows for each business unit to operate as its own entity based on where it`s located. A Product
organizational structure is a structure which involves many products. A customer organizational
structure is based on specific customer expectations.

Apple`s Board of Directors insists eight members with a concrete leadership background in a
different range of industries. Three members are CEO`s and two members are former chairman and
CEO`s of global companies the most important CEO` of Apple is Tim Cook and the most important
person from the Board of Directors is Arthur D. Levinson.
