Explain the structure and functions of the Nursing Council of Jamaica - ANS Structure: Established in
1952, their Statutory body was created through legislation (Nurses' & Midwives' Act 1964)
- NCJ Board constitutes 15 members appointed by the Ministry of Health.
function: They help to regulate /govern the training/education of student nurses. After completion of
the nursing course, and success of the regional examination they are the ones whom grant the
acceptance for nurse registration /licensing for nurses to practice in the hospital. In cayman they grant
the approval for the curriculum for UCCI School of Nursing and School of Nursing.
Explain the structure and functions of the Nursing Council of the Cayman Islands - ANS Structure:
Governed by the Health Practice Law and Health Practice Regulations, Revised (2017).
Function: To provide guidelines for new nurses and midwife students to follow within their education
and also to monitor these students' degree and course of study. They help to determine which nurse
and midwife passes their license examination. And lastly, they set standards for registration in which
they look for good candidates that fulfill the requirements for the scope of practice to grant them with
license. Relicense- continuing education. Suspension/ revoking of license
•Main function: to ensure that nursing students are provided with a minimum standard of education.
And to ensure that all practice done in the hospital is provided by a licensed nurse and midwife.
