The somatic nervous system is a part of the peripheral nervous system that
regulates the body's skeletal muscles.

Autonomic nervous system - ANSWER A division of the peripheral nervous
system. Controls the involuntary action of visceral muscles, internal organs, and
glands.

ANSWER: Autonomic sensory neurones The main input into the ANS comes
from here.

Interoceptors are sensory receptors situated in blood arteries, visceral organs,
and muscles that monitor changes in the internal environment.

Autonomic motor neurones govern visceral activities by boosting (exciting) or
reducing (inhibiting) ongoing activity in their effector tissues (cardiac muscle,
smooth muscle, and glands).

Somatic motor neurone pathway - ANSWER Myelinated motor neurones
stretch directly from the central nervous system synapse to the effector (skeletal
muscle) via a single neurone pathway. ACh

Autonomic ganglion is the location of the synapse between the axon of the
preganglionic neurone and the cell body of the postganglionic neurone.

The sympathetic nervous system is the 'fight or flight' component of the
autonomic nervous system that boosts awareness and metabolic activity to
prepare the body for emergencies.

The parasympathetic nervous system is the'rest and digest' division of the
autonomic nervous system that conserves and replenishes the body's energy
during rest and digestion.
