Unit 17 CAD Report

Beginning this unit with the first assignment, known as the CAD Report, I will talk about the
advantages of using CAD compared to other methods of producing drawings electronically.
Before I describe what the advantages are, I will explain what CAD is & what it stands for;
essentially, CAD is a Computer Aided Design software that is used by engineers, architects,
artists & others to manufacture very accurate drawings.

The first few advantages of using CAD is the ability to produce precise designs in 2D & 3D
compared to hand drawing. Another pro is that with free hand, you must draw the boarder,
title block & the location of your views; in CAD however; you can draw your designs in the
model space & then create a layout for that design, then rearrange your views to the correct
place.

Furthermore, with CAD
you can select a variety
of drawing tools that
makes lines, circles, and
curves, etc. very easily;
as well as move, copy,
rotate & mirror drawings.
The size & resolution of
your drawing can be
altered if required; if you
wish to do very detailed
work, you can simply
zoom into your drawing,
& zoom out completely
to see how your drawing/ s
looks. Modifying your drawings is another advantage because if you require copying all your
drawing parts of an object, you won’t have to redraw it like free hand; likewise, if a drawing
had to be removed, it can be accomplished by clicking the undo button, instead of erasing it
with a rubber.

On the other hand, there are a few disadvantages of using CAD, which are that it is
reasonably priced high for individuals, so not everyone can purchase it. Whenever there is a
new update on CAD, the old files may be at risk of being corrupt; & the individuals that use
CAD will have to update their skills to understand how to use the new features.
