These aspects allow listeners to understand a speaker clearly and the main ideas
being conveyed *Listening needs to involve empathy; this implies that we need to

, feel what a speaker feels so that we can understand the attitude of the speaker when
delivering a speech
The steps to follow for good listening skills
1. Making comments. Comments help us to form an opinion of what we listen to,
and to decide on our feelings about it,
a)Paying attention to the speaker increase our knowledge of the topic and absorb
the information . The important issue is not whether or not we agree, but whether
what we listen to makes us think, thus increasing our knowledge.
b)Questions allow us to gain more information as we get explanations of what we
do not understand. This allows our knowledge of the topic to have depth and
substance, which allow us to make more accurate notes
c)Doing research is also an important skill to develop as we need to consult many
reliable sources in order to make good notes for ourselves
2. Analyze what we hear. Analysis implies looking at all components of what we
listen to so as to decide what the issues are.
Components are:
The topic
The specific words used to discuss the topic
The tone and intonation of the speaker
The facial expressions
The body language
The themes and perspectives or attitude the speaker has
How the listeners react to what is said
1. Topic
If a topic being discussed is very broad then it is difficult to understand it properly.
When we ask questions. So, when we ask a question, we need to focus the
questions on the aspects of the topic the ides relate to so as to set boundaries. The
more specific a topic is, the easier it is to gain an understanding of the ideas around
it.
2.Tone
Attitude a writer takes toward the audience, a subject, or a character
