stages of drowning 1. initial apnea- stop breathing, glottis closes, lack of oxygen starts
sinking 10-60 sec.
2. dysnea- glottis relaxes and water enters lungs, may vomit, 30 sec.
3. terminal apnea- unconscious, most likely permanently brain damaged from no oxygen, 1.5
min, convulsions, rescue breaths
4 .cardiac arrest - CPR needed
EAP steps assess, action if safe, rescue, remove, care, report
primary removes victim, checks for breath, initial cpc, tells to get ems,
secondary takes over watch until pool cleared
