Respiratory Arrest Right Ans - These are Signs and Symptoms of ____________
____________.
Inadequate Breathing
- No chest movement
- No breath sounds
- No air movement
- Cyanosis (Blue Skin), especially around the lips
- Slow, gasping respirations
Note: The most critical sign of inadequate breathing and _______ __________
(Total lack of respirations). pg 125 ch7.
Patient Assessment Sequence
(What are the 5 steps in a Patient Assessment) Right Ans - Step 1: Scene
size-up
Step 2: Primary Assessment
Step 3: History Taking
Step 4: Secondary Assessment
Step 5: Reassessment
Step 1 of Patient Assessment: Scene Size-up (SSU) Right Ans - -BSI (Body
Substance isolation) Think PPE (Personal Protective Equipment
-Scene Safe? Is it safe to enter/approach?
-Number of patients?
-NOI (Nature of Illness) or MOI (Mechanism of Injury) Is it Medical or
Trauma?
-Additional Resources? (Police, Fire, Electric company, gas company etc.
Acronym for your Primary Assessment - Standard PT
(Primary Assessment - Standard, Step 2) Right Ans - GRABCT
G - General Impression (Before touching PT) AAMBIRPC
R - Responsiveness (CC | C-Spine | LOC) AVPU
A - Airway (Open & Clear)
B - Breathing (Breath Sounds | Chest Rise | O2 <94% | Working Hard for
Breath | Respiratory Rate "RR" | Tidal Volume ) Note: Adequate = Effortless |
O2 Sat >94% Inadequate = RR>24 or <8 BPM | ventilations are shallow)
, C - Circulation [ 1. Pulses: (Carotid for Unresponsive | Radial for Responsive |
Brachial for Infants)] [2. PISS (Bodily Fluids)] [3. Perfusion (Color | Temp |
Moisture)] [4. Capillary Refill (Push on nailed & release - count for 2 sec)]
T - Transport Decision - [1. (Triage "Transport Priority" Green, Yellow, Red,
Blue or Black)] [2. Transport (BLS, ALS or Specialty Unit)
Triage Right Ans - The process of determining the priority of patients'
treatments based on the severity of their condition.
Triage Level (Green) Right Ans - stable, can wait even longer to be seen,
"walking wounded". Minor injuries that do not need immediate intervention.
Triage Level (Yellow) Right Ans - These are patients that require
intervention within a couple of hours before deterioration may occur.
"Delayed Intervention"
Triage Level (Red) Right Ans - These patients may require life threat
correction and need intervention immediately.
Triage Level (Blue) Right Ans - These patients are in cardiac arrest and in
need of CPR.
NOTE: There are NO blue patients in mass casualty incidents. No Pulse and no
Breathing with Mass - Code Black..... But if they are alone not breathing and no
pulse - Code Blue
Triage Level (Black) Right Ans - These patients are deceased and unable to
be resuscitated. "Dead"
Note: In a mass casualty situation- if they have no pulse or not breathing -
Code Black
4 steps of the Secondary Patient Assessment Right Ans - 1. VITALS (PR
BABES)
2. HISTORY (SAMPLE OPQRSTI AS PN)
3. EXAM (1. DCAP BTLS | 2. MISSJAC | 3. GBREAD)
4. REASSESSMENT (12VIP)
