Page 1: Introduction to Cell Division
Why do puppies so quickly get big?
Because a puppys cells are rapidly dividing. Meaning that thr number of cells in the body for grown and development
are doubling.
Key Terms: Jot down terms and definitions that are new to you. You will see them used in the lesson.
Page 2: Cell Cycle
What is the purpose of cell division?
so that the multicelled organisms such as humans and puppes and grow
What part of cell division do cells spend most time?
G1 phase
What are the two main sections of the cell cycle?
1.Mitosis
2.Cytokinesis
What are the three phases of interphase?
1.G1 phase
2.S phase
3.G2 phase
Explain what happens during each stage of the cell cycle in the table below.
Stage Description
G1 phase the cell grows and performs its job functions within the organism
S phase the cell will make a copy of the chromatin in its nucleus. The chromatin contains the cell’s
DNA. Once this genetic material has been copied, the cell moves on to the G2 phase.
G2 phase Now in the G2 phase, the cell grows a bit and makes final preparations for cell division. At
the end of this phase, the cell is ready to divide.
Cytokinesis
