WORD FORMATION USING WORD CLIPPING
A clipped variant has the same denotative meaning as the original term, but is considered more colloquial and casual. Clipping also facilitates the spelling and writing of large numbers of words. For example, a shortened form of a term may replace the original word in common usage, such as using piano instead of pianoforte.
