1. What are the essential elements of a vision? -
- ....ANSWER...The essential elements of a vision
statement are that they are in the present tense, are
a compelling statement of who you are and what you
believe in, what behaviors (health, life, etc) you
engage in regularly, and reflect areas you want to
incorporate into improvement in the near future.
Visions can include wellness, health, fitness, sleep,
diet, stress, anti-aging, etc.

2. Explain the difference between analyzing the
causes of problems and appreciating what problems
have to teach us. Give examples of how this might be
done with clients. -

, - ....ANSWER...Analyzing the cause of problems sets
in motion a downward spiral of discouragement for a
client; for example, why weight gain occurred rather
than looking at what caused the weight gain and
what lessons were learned (eating friend foods and
soda are not congruent with healthy choices) and
that baked food and water, green tea, or occasional
light juices are better choices. Focusing on learning
what doesn't work from a proactive place with
clients is more positive and motivational.

3. Until clients are ready, willing and able to take
action, what should the coach do to help increase
their readiness to change? - - ....ANSWER...Ask
clients on a ruler (scale of 0-10) how important the
goal is to them to move into changes. Explore lower
and higher numbers, and if clients aren't ready to
change, express empathy and acceptance, explore
conditions that would generate readiness, so clients
recognize them upon arrival.

4. Explain the differences between behaviors and
outcomes. Give some examples of behaviors and
outcomes that might be a part of a client's health
fitness and wellness plan. - ....ANSWER...

, - Behaviors are activities that a client does
consistently to reach goals.

- Outcomes are what results the client wants to
achieve.

A coaching example of behaviors are fitness
activities such as walking, weight lifting, yoga,
dancing, rock climbing, skating, to yield results or
outcomes of better physical health, fitness, and
social interaction. - ....ANSWER...

5. Why is it important and valuable to track
outcomes over time?
- ....ANSWER...It's important to track outcomes from
a starting point to see results of efforts made by
clients to keep them motivated with their efforts and
on track to continue coaching. Ultimately, the
difference in health shows effort, and equals results.

6. How is holding clients accountable in coaching
different than from their being held accountable in
the workplace and at home? - ....ANSWER...

, As a coach, we have to remain detached to the
outcomes of our client's changes and goals. It is up
to the client to meet the goals; not our job to be
responsible for their results. We as coaches are not
parents, bosses, or spouses. We are mirrors for
what is desired and worked for by our clients.

7. Why do we ask clients to set three month goals? -
....ANSWER...

Three month goals are medium term goals designed
to help clients make changes (start, learn, and
maintain) into healthier habits. If a client wants to
loose weight, then three month goals must focus on
specifics around diet and exercise, based on what
the client is willing to do (for example, walking
3x/week for 30 minutes, or make sure to eat a
healthy breakfast of protein, healthy carb, and
veggies daily) to have a healthy outcome. In this
case, it would be normal to see increased
cardiovascular fitness, and a decrease in weight and
inches.

8. When setting weekly goals, you should help your
clients set goals to reach what % of success? -
....ANSWER...
