Core Values of the Profession (6) - ANSWER service, social justice,
dignity/worth of people, value of human relationships, honesty, competence
Advocate - ANSWER SW champions others' rights to empower the client
system being serviced.
Brokers - ANSWER SW is responsible for quickly finding, locating, and
connecting client systems to necessary resources.
Change Agent - ANSWER works as part of a group/organization to enhance or
restructure some component of service delivery.
Counsellor - ANSWER focuses on improving social functioning by assisting
client systems in articulating their needs, clarifying their difficulties, exploring
solutions, and implementing interventions to enhance and increase client system
capacities.
Mediator - ANSWER SW will intervene in disagreements between parties to
assist them in finding compromises, reconciling differences, and reaching
mutually beneficial solutions.
Transference is the redirection of a client's feelings toward a significant other to
a social worker.
ex: erotic, fury, hatred, mistrust, parentification, dependence on another person
directed against the SW (psychoanalysis).
Countertransference is the redirecting of a social worker's feelings toward a
client.
For example, is a SW sexually attracted to a client, and is the client
reciprocating?
