damage.
- Frostbite - - The freezing of flesh. Caused by restriction of blood flow to
appendages when conserving heat. Symptoms: loss of sensation, swelling,
hard/red.
- Trench Foot - - Caused by moisture trapped against the skin for an
extended amount of time. How to prevent: avoid water, change socks, keep
feet warm, good foot hygiene!
- Hypothermia - - Caused by body's temperature dropping below 95°. Pulse
and respiration are slowed by 85-81°; <78° will result in death. Avoid water
during frigid temperatures, and always pack adequate warming layers!
