a blurring of information and entertainment. When I think of infotainment the talk show that

comes to mind is “The View”. Watching this show you obtain a mixture of facts, opinions, and

entertainment. Our Chamberlain week 2 lesson explains in detail how people have turned to

social networks and entertainment as an outlet for news instead of CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN and

other news stations (2024). Media outlets and audiences become more divided along political

lines when people choose media that confirms only their existing views and persuasions. This is

known as polarization of the media. I see the news as both biased and unbiased based on the

chosen television show or news broadcasts on the radio. Corporate ownership of the traditional

news media means that the news is driven not by a strong and honest desire to inform citizens,

but instead by money, and the desire to make a profit. This has led to infotainment which in

today’s world people gravitate towards. Kubin provides statistics regarding affective

polarization, that nearly all experiments found that social media can further affectively polarize

people. One study he wrote about was about those who deactivated their Facebook account in the

lead up to the 2018 United States midterm election became less affectively polarized (2021).

Political scientists refer to the process by which individuals acquire these beliefs and attitudes as

political socialization. The instruments by which beliefs and attitudes are conveyed to individuals

in society (such as our families, schools, and so on) are called agents of socialization

(Chamberlain,2024).

I do feel filtering or screening would minimize The Pew Research center provides

interesting statistics based on the question if the media should remain non-biased. The

survey finds that a median of 75% across 38 countries say it is never acceptable for a news

organization to favor one political party over others when reporting the news. Just 20% say this
