Overview of SimChart for the Medical
Office
Active Patient - answer An established patient who has seen the provider or another
provider in the billing group within the past 3 years.
button - answer An element of the user interface on which the user can click to execute
a command, such as save, confirm, cancel, or exit.
check box - answer A specialized type of button that toggles on (checked) and off
(unchecked). Check boxes are often used when more than one response might be
appropriate (as in "Check all that apply"), but sometimes they should be interpreted to
mean yes or no (as in a check box next to the caption "OK to mail?").
closed patient record - answer The record of a patient who will not be returning to the
medical office or who has not been seen in the past 10 years.
default - answer A preselected value or setting that will be used unless the user
specifies a substitute by overriding the preselected choice.
field - answer Space allocated on a form for specific numeric or text data.
inactive patient - answer who has not seen the provider or another provider in the billing
group for 3 or more years.
radio button - answerA specialized type of button on a software interface that toggles on
(round button visible) and off (blank circle). Radio buttons tell the user that only one
response is appropriate because two radio buttons can't be depressed at the same
time.
retention period - answerThe amount of time patient records must, by law, be
maintained by the medical office.
Accessing SCMO through evolve
1. From the main menu of your computer, open Mozilla Firefox. (Evolve and SCMO are
compatible with most browsers, but Chrome or Mozilla Firefox work best.)
2. Go to http://evolve.elsevier.com/enrollcourseid.
3. Enter the course ID in the field (provided by your instructor) and click Submit
4. A pop-up window asking you to log in or create a new account will appear. If you are
a returning user, enter your Evolve username and password and click Login. If you are
, new to Evolve, enter your name, email, desired password, and institution information (if
applicable) and click Continue.
5. If you have a 12-character access code, type it into the field provided and select
Apply. Note: Access codes may only be used once. If you do not have an access code,
SCMO is available for purchase.
6. Next, select Redeem/Checkout. (Note: You may be prompted to update your account
