Perineal care - ANSWER Warm water/peri bottle to clean when voiding
Gentle wipe or pat dry
1st 24 hrs, ice or cold packs to reduce swelling
Witch hazel on sanitary pads
If 3rd/4th degree lac, assess 1 wk PP; REEDA (red, edema, ecchymosis, discharge, approximation)
Two hour glucose tolerance test - ANSWER 4-12 wks PP
1+ abnormal for dx:
Fasting >/= 92
One hour >/= 180
Two hour >/= 153
Fundal height - ANSWER At umbilicus about one hour after delivery
Height decreases by 1 cm every 24 hours
Should be non-palpable after 2 wks
Blood levels - ANSWER Hgb decreases immediately PP; > 1 g decrease should be addressed in hospital
Slowly increases to normal by day 14
WBC elevated immediately PP, normal by 1 wk
Lochia - ANSWER Rubra days 1-4
Serosa (brown/pink) days 5-14
Alba (white/yellow) day 14 to up to 6 wks
Return of ovulation - ANSWER If exclusively BF, around 6 mos, but is affected by amount of BF, intervals,
and introduction of solid food
If no BF, average of 70-75 days, by 12 wks for 70% of pts
