The most likely utilitarian question is E, it breaks my heart to see children exploited. this
is morally wrong and must not be allowed.

2. state your premises for concluding this explicitly as we taught you in the section A
DARN GOOD ARGUMENT.
Premises 1: The DRC produce 60% of the world cobalt, it is largest source of income.
The DRC accounted for nearly three-quarters of global production in 2023 making it the
world largest cobalt producer.
Premises 2: A small portion of cobalt mining in the DRC occurs under poor working
conditions, where by children at these mining sites is atrocious they work without breaks
and without any basic measures for protection and security.
Premises 3: Some of workers in these mines are children. The thought of innocent
children being exploited for economic gain is heart breaking, we should protect human
right and uphold dignity for all individuals to protect our children.
Premises 4: The used of child in mines is considered unethical and harmful, allowing
child labour to perpetuate a cycle pf poverty and lack of education which affect not just
one person but also lot of families in the DRC.
Premises 5: The working condition in some mining in the DRC are dangerous. According
to the utilitarian ethics, actions are right if they promote greatest happiness for the great
number.

Conclusion
Child labour in the mines of the DRC is a terrible reality that must be exposed in spite of
various regulations governing mining as announced by the Congolese and 2009 law on
child protection prohibiting the exploitation of children.

How I feel about this option I feel bad seeing a child labour in mines as mines are
generally viewed as hazardous work environment and is deeply troubling and unethical.
It’s a violation of children rights and wellbeing safety concern or psychological harm
stress and trauma of such work can have psychological consequences.


4.Which option did you choose?
The option I choose was option E “It breaks my heart to see children exploited. This is
morally wrong and must not be allowed so I think the child labour right must be use
against DRC mining so that every child is in those mining will get chance to be in school.
