Audience Observations Worksheet
Select 1 smartphone image from the Interactive Smartphone Observations activity and analyze it.
Consider the following questions as you conduct your analysis:
What details do you notice about the type of smartphone, its condition, its home screen, or the
apps on it?
What do the smartphone details reveal about the owner, such as their health, values, age, or
wealth? What are your first reactions?
What inferences can you make about the owner based on your observations?
Complete the Smartphone Observations and Inferences Table in which you:
List 3 to 5 observations that you made about your selected smartphone in the Observations
column.
Provide 1 inference for each observation that indicates what each observation about the
smartphone might tell you about the smartphone’s owner (your audience) in the Inferences
column.

1. Assume you located the smartphone owner’s email address, and you want to write an email to
the owner offering to return the smartphone. Consider your observations about the smartphone
and what you believe are characteristics of its owner. Consider how the owner’s characteristics
