(25) 1.1 Discuss professional media ethics with specific reference to professionalisation and the influence of the sociopolitical structure. (20) [45] Question 2 2.1 Discuss the IEA Model (for the analysis of ethical conduct of the media within the South African context) by identifying and discussing the different elements of the model. (25) [45] GUIDELINES • Research Begin by reading the relevant chapters in your prescribed book and study guide. For question 1 you will have to study chapters 3 and 4, and for question 2, chapter 6. (Chapters 1 and 2 are however also relevant to both questions.) Make notes that are relevant to the question. • Introduction Begin writing your assignment. Start each question with a brief introduction. In your introduction you must outline the structure of your answer and identify the theme of your answer. The introduction should be a paragraph of approximately eight sentences and not more than half a page. • Theoretical discussion Begin writing the body of your assignment. In question 1 start by explaining what normative media theories are. Then discuss the three theories briefly and also discuss public communication values. Use subheadings and proceed to explain/discuss professional media ethics. In question 2 explain the IEA model and then discuss any two of the issues in the media that have serious ethical implications. • Conclusion For each question present a summary of your main findings or discussion as a conclusion to the answer. The conclusion should be a paragraph of approximately eight sentences and not more than half a page.
