What is ABA/What does it do? - Correct Answer Behavior Analysis that uses *principles of behaviors*
to change socially important behaviors in a positive way.
(Seven Dimensions): Applied, Behavioral, Analytic, Technological, Conceptually Systematic, Effective,
Generality - Correct Answer *applied & behavioral:* focuses on behavior
*analytic:* demonstrates functional relationships
*technological:* procedures used are described in enough detail for replication
*conceptually systematic:* procedures used are based on the principles and functions of behavior
*effective:* behavior change is demonstrated through objective measurement
*generality:* it's generalized - occurs across behaviors, settings and people
How do you prepare for data collection? - Correct Answer - Reference the FBA and BIP for
operational definitions of behaviors, session structure, etc
- Have all your tools; visuals, data sheets, timers, etc
- Prepare the environment so data can be collected safely, efficiently, and without specific
distractors/antecedents for problem behaviors
What is Continuous Measurement?
Examples of Continuous Measurement - Correct Answer Continuous measurement records and
measures every occurrence of a behavior
Frequency
Rate
Duration
Latency
* Sendan typically uses frequency count data collection to track occurrences of challenging behavior
Frequency
Is it continuous or discontinuous?
, Describe how you implement frequency as a measurement. - Correct Answer Frequency is a
continuous form of measurement
It is a count of how many times a behavior occurs within a period of time
- tally count
- used w/ behaviors that have a clear beginning and end
- used w/ behaviors that occur at a medium/low rate
(ex: the client screamed 7 times in the observation)
advantages: most common and straightforward way to collect data
disadvantages: we only know that it occurred, not how long it occurred...time consuming...doesn't
work well if there is a high rate of behavior or if the behavior doesn't have a clear beginning/end
Rate
Is it continuous or discontinuous?
Describe how you implement rate as a measurement. - Correct Answer Rate is a continuous form of
measurement
It is a way to reflect the frequency of the behavior that occurs over a period of time, and is expressed
as a # per unit of time
(ex: the client screamed an average of 12 times per hour, 6 per minute, etc)
- to calculate: divide the frequency by the duration of the session/observation time
Duration
Is it continuous or discontinuous?
Describe how you implement duration as a measurement. - Correct Answer Duration is a continuous
measurement
Measures how long a behavior lasts from beginning to end
- must identify an onset and offset
- good measurement tool for: imaginative play, tantrums, getting dressed, etc
(ex: one instance of screaming lasted 37 seconds)
Latency & IRR (Inter Rate Response)
