ENG2614
ASSIGNMENT NO: 03
SEMESTER 2
YEAR : 2024

PREVIEW:
Section 2
• Discuss which narrative elements you think help the most with the construction
of the plot in your chosen book?

Narrative Elements for Plot Construction:
o Characterization: The portrayal of the young black girl as the
protagonist is crucial. Her background, dreams, and struggles shape the
plot. We see her resilience, resourcefulness, and determination to
overcome adversity.
o Conflict: The tension between her dreams and the harsh reality she
faces creates conflict. The stepmother and stepsisters serve as
antagonists, adding complexity to the plot.
o Setting: The contemporary urban setting provides a fresh backdrop. The
girl’s journey unfolds in a diverse, bustling city, emphasizing the clash
between her ordinary life and extraordinary aspirations.

, One of the activities you had to engage with on the myModules site was the Book Club
Padlet. In the Padlet, you were asked to write about a book that influenced you the
most when you were growing up.

For those of you who did not complete this activity on the myModules site, it is going
to be a little difficult, so please do so before engaging with this Assignment question.
You will need to choose a children's book that has influenced you or has left an
impression on you, and explain what the book is about and what impact it has had on
you. If you have already engaged in the Book Club Padlet, all you need to do is refer
back to what you posted.

Paste a screenshot of what you posted on the Book Club Padlet at the end of the
assignment under the title: Book Club Padlet.

Section 1

For the creative part of this question, go back to the book that you chose and presented
in the Book Club Padlet.

Now, using the "more creative" tab in Copilot, prompt it to generate a creative cover
for the book you chose. Remember to prompt it to create a cover image that is "not
the same as the original cover, but is more contemporary". Use a basic prompt such
as "Create an image of a modern book cover for the novel" as a starting point. The
cover should 'speak' to what you felt the story contributed to you growing up. The more
detail you give Copilot, the more accurate your illustration will be.

You will see that at the bottom of the generated image, Copilot will offer you other
elements that you could use to design the cover. You can play around until you are
happy with the cover that you have created.
Be creative and have fun!

Paste your cover into your assignment under the heading Section 1.
(10 Marks)

Answer the following questions on the book that you chose for the Book Club.
Each question is worth 10 Marks.
Instructions:
• Please attach a screenshot of your Padlet response at the bottom of the
assignment.
• For those of you who did not do this exercise, you will need to choose a
children's book for ages 9-12 and answer the questions that follow.
• If you use AI to generate anything other than that which we have asked you to
use AI for, we will fail you with 0%.
• Please respond to the questions in your own voice with your own ideas and
your own opinions.
