Desert - ANSWER small plants that conserve water actively (Cactus, sagebrush, mesquite)

saprophytes grow on the bottom floor.


Temperate Deciduous Forest - ANSWER cold winters, warm summers, moderate rainfall; Beech, maple,
oaks, and willow trees (flat leaves). These shed their leaves during cold seasons. Animals include-deer,
fox, squirrels, birds



Temperate Coniferous Forest - ANSWER cold, dry, and inhabited by trees that do not lose their leaves-fir,
pine, and spruce trees (pine trees/evergreens). Animals include-beavers, bears, sheep, squirrels, and
birds



Taiga - ANSWER receives less rainfall than temperate forests. Long cold winters. Trees here dont lose
their leaves (evergreen trees/ pine leaves). Have a thin soil covered in moss and lichens. Animals include-
moose, deer, bears, wolves, rodents, birds.



Tundra - ANSWER treeless frozen plain found between taiga and northern ice sheets. The ground is
covered in snow and ice (permafrost) for much of the year. Summer are very short and the grounds
become wet and marshy. Plant/ Animals include- Lichens, mosses, polar bears, musk, oxen, and arctic
hares



Polar region - ANSWER frozen areas with no vegetation; Animals include Penguins and polar bears



Intertidal zone - ANSWER exposed to low tides and undergoes temperature variations. Animals include-
algae, sponges, sea urchins, snails, starfish, crabs
