unresponsive person who is breathing normally with no spinal injuries - ANS-when to use
recovery position
roll to side w arm cushioning head and leg and other arm propping up - ANS-what is recovery
position
opens and maintains airways, especially if they vomit - ANS-what does recovery position do
- remove surrounding clothing
- apply direct pressure preferably w a pad
- snuggly wrap bandage around pad
- keep applying until flow stops - ANS-control severe bleeding
- place few inches above injury
- crank handle until bleeding stops
- keep it there until ems arrives - ANS-tourniquet
- manually stabilize limb in found position
- place hands above and below injury
- apply direct pressure AROUND the sticking out bone to stop bleeding
- contact ems if it's super bad
- apply cold if swollen - ANS-fractures
- if fractured and have to be moved, apply a splint
- immobilize limb in found position
- pad splints where they touch any bony part of the body to prevent circulation problems
- check frequently for swelling or numbness - ANS-splint
- if safe, tap bottom of foot and shout loudly
- look for normal breathing and feel for obvious pulse in upper arm
- if no pulse or blue, call ems and get an aed
- give 30 chest compressions then 2 rescue breaths - ANS-cpr infant
- go to side of person and place cpr mask on face
- tilt head back on forehead and hold mask w a W grip
- keep head tilted and thrust jaw upward to make tight seal and maintain seal
- deep breath then let person exhale completely
- each breath should be about 1 sec and chest should visibly rise
- for infants give puffs of air - ANS-rescue breathing from the side
