1. Describe your personal experiences with learning fractions as a student. Discuss any
challenges or difficulties you encountered when first introduced to fractions. Explain how
your understanding evolved over time. (10)

Personal Experiences with Learning Fractions

Introduction to Fractions: My journey with fractions began in elementary school, around
the third grade. I remember my initial encounter with fractions as quite perplexing. The
concept of dividing whole numbers into smaller parts was foreign, and the visual
representation using pie charts and number lines felt abstract.

Challenges and Difficulties:

1. Abstract Concept: The idea of parts of a whole was difficult to grasp.
Understanding that fractions represented quantities between whole numbers
required a shift in my thinking.

2. Operations with Fractions: Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions
posed significant challenges. The need to find common denominators for addition
and subtraction was particularly confusing at first.

3. Fraction Equivalence: Recognizing equivalent fractions and simplifying them was
another hurdle. It was challenging to comprehend that different-looking fractions
could represent the same value.

4. Word Problems: Applying fractions in word problems added another layer of
complexity. Interpreting real-life situations and converting them into fraction
problems required a deeper level of understanding.

Evolution of Understanding:
