Methods of attaining power: ancestry, divine right, conquest, revolut ion, and popular vote. ancestry - the descendants of a single individual divine right - ANSWER notion that a ruler's authority stems directly from God. Conquest - ANSWER capturing or taking something by force. Revolution is the overthrow of a government by those who are governed. popular vote - ANSWER vote of people in a "general election" Federalism is a system in which power is split between national and st ate governments. The three branches of the United States government are legislative, executiv e, and judicial. legislative - the branch of government that creates laws. The executive branch of government is responsible for enforcing and carrying ou t laws. The judicial branch of government interprets legislation and assesses wh ether they are constitutional. US Congress - ANSWER The name for the United States' bicameral legislature, which consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The name for th e legislative branch of the United States government.
