1. WELCOME
Dear Student
Welcome to the module Teaching Practice TPF26011501. This examination portfolio must be
completed as part of your compulsory two-weeks teaching practice. You should have
completed and submitted Assessment 50 before you do this one. We hope you will find
this module interesting and that it will enrich your teaching career.
You must read through all the tutorial letters you receive during the semester immediately and
carefully as they always contain important and sometimes urgent information. They are our
way of communicating with you about teaching, learning and assessment.
Tutorial Letter 101 contains important information about the Assessments for this module. We
urge you to read through it carefully and to keep it at hand when working through the study
material, preparing the Assessments, and addressing questions to your lecturers.
We have also included certain general and administrative information about this module.
Please study this section of the tutorial letter carefully. It contains the required lessons that you
need to plan with your mentor at the school where you have been placed.
Make sure you contact the Teaching Practice Office well in advance to confirm your placement
before you go to the school to complete the teaching practice. All communication regarding the
placement must be via your myLife e-mail address.
We are aware that problems may occasionally disrupt your studies. Please contact your
lecturer by e-mail or telephone should you wish to discuss them.
We hope you will enjoy this module and we wish you success!

3.1 Introduction
All the activities in the workbook are guided observations and need to take place in the
Foundation Phase (Grades R to 3) classes for two weeks to pass the examination
assessment/portfolio. We suggest you read through all the activities in this 104/0/2023
examination workbook before your teaching practice. Discuss all your expectations with your
mentor teacher at the school well in advance to gauge how much is expected of you during
the three weeks of teaching practice and to help you to organise your time effectively. It would
also be wise to share these activities with your mentor teacher to establish when certain
observations will be possible and to synchronise them with the timetable and weekly planning
for the two weeks.
