GRADE 2LESSON:
GRADE 2 LESSONS- 2 WEEKS
LESSON 1: MFP1501- GRADE 2
Find teaching and learning resources that will enable you to create lists and quantity sets suitable
for Grade 2 learners (NB: Resources need to be different from the ones you used for Grade R and
Grade 1 learners.) Ask learners to come up with a storyat is
thlinked to the resources that you are
showing them, as part of the introduction of your lesson. In the presentation of your lesson, teach
the learners to count numbers as lists and to count numbers, as associated with a quantity for
describing a setsize, using the resources you found.
Plan an assessment that learners will do at the end of this lesson that is associated with the story
you told and the activities you presented. Most importantly, the assessment should be aimed at
assessing the following:
• Stable order principle- to see if learners are consistently using the number words in the
same order.
• One-to-one principle– to see if learners can count every item in a set only once, using only
one number.
• Cardinal principle– to see if learners understand that the last number word used represents
the cardinality of the set.

: CREATING LISTS
AND QUANTITY SETS
2
, LESSON OBJECTIVES/OUTCOMES
By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to:
• Create lists and quantity sets using given resources.
• Count numbers as lists, understanding the order of number words.
• Count numbers associated with a quantity for describing set size, understanding the
Cardinal principle.
• Apply the Stable order principle, ensuring consistent use of number words in the
same order.
• Apply the One-to-one principle, counting every item in a set only once with one
number.
LESSON INTRODUCTION
• Introduce the lesson by telling a story linked to the teaching and learning resources.
• Ask learners to come up with their own stories related to the resources.
THE MAIN PART OF THE LESSON.
Activity 1
Teacher Activity: Introduce the concept of creating lists and quantity sets using the resources.
Learner Activity: Engage learners in creating their own lists and quantity sets using the resources.
Activity 2:

size. Learner Activity: Practice counting
numbers as lists and associated with
quantity using the resources.
