Fractions - ANSWER-a numerical quantity that is not a whole number (e.g. 1/2, 0.5) Percentage of an amount - ANSWER-Find 17.25% of $23.60 Change the % to a decimal (by ÷100) or a fraction (place over 100) = 0.1725 0.1725 x 23.60 = $4.07 (2dp) Increase/reducing by a percentage - ANSWER-Whether creating or decreasing by a percentage the skill is done similarly. Find the % first and then either add (increase) or subtract (decrease) to the initial amount. Expressing one quantity as a percentage of another - ANSWER-To express one quantity as a percentage of another, make sure that both quantities are expressed in the same units. Write the given quantity as a fraction of the total and multiply it by 100%. Then simplify. Decimal rounding - ANSWER-"5 or above give it a shove, 4 or below keep it down low." Decimal ordering - ANSWER-The number that has numbers in the 1000ths is bigger than one with only 10ths. Eg: 0.334, 0.468, 0.3, 0.27 -- 0.3, 0.27, 0.334, 0.468 is ASCENDING order. 0.468, 0.334, 0.27, 0.3 is DESCENDING order. Fraction equivalence - ANSWER-Equivalent fractions are different fractions that name the same number. Eg: Two-thirds is equivalent to four-sixths. Adding and Subtracting fractions - ANSWER-Same denominator: just plus the two top numbers together. Different denominator: plus the top and bottom numbers together Multiply fractions - ANSWER-top x top ---------------- bottom x bottom
