Muslims believe that one of the meanings of Islam is 'peace' and one of Allah's characteristics is as a
'source of peace' . This is Important because Muslims look up to Allah and try to be like Allah and
show these actions in real life.
Peace is important because the aim of Islam is to create a peaceful society on a personal and global
scale. This is seen through, for example, the greeting of 'al-salami alaykum' (peace be upon you),
which a Muslim uses whenever they meet another Muslim . The Qur'an encourages this when it says
'when you are offered a greeting, respond with a better one or at least return it'
