MA 262: 1.2, 1.4-1.5 Review- Integrals as General & Particular Solutions, Separable Equations & Applications, & Linear 1st-Order Equations
Review of lessons 1.2, 1.4, and 1.5 for MA 262 (Linear Algebra & Differential Equations) at Purdue University. Content based on class textbook Differential Equations & Linear Algebra by C. Henry Edwards and David E. Penney (ISBN: 9780536264923). 1.2 covers integrals as general and particular solutions for differential equations. Procedure is demonstrated to obtain solution for special case differential equation (DE) of the form dy/dx = f(x). 1.4 covers separable equations and applications--that is, procedure to solve DEs of the form dy/dx = f(x)g(y). 1.5 covers linear 1st-order DEs, including definitions and the integrating factor method to obtain a solution. Derivation for integrating factor method is shown. Appended is a review of the procedure to solve mixture problems, some of the most common DE problems on exams. Two types are covered (1) tanks with identical inflow/outflow rates and (2) tanks with distinct inflow/outflow rates.
