total. Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance.
Denial - ✅✅ -- people resist the idea that they are going to die.
- they may argue that their test results have been mixed up
- that their x-ray has been read incorrectly
- the physician doesn't know what they are talking about
Anger - ✅✅-when they move beyond denial they may express anger.
- angry at everyone
- angry at people with good health
- angry at caring family members
- may lash out at others
- may say why they are dying and not someone else
- maybe furious at god, saying their is far worse people out there that should be
dying
Bargaining - ✅✅-" if you're good, you'll be rewarded"
good= being a better person
reward= not dying
the promises are rarely kept, they keep promising and promising not willing to
complete promises because their illness will not allow them to.
no bargaining in the world will overcome death.
Depression - ✅✅ -- overwhelmed with deep sense of loss
- they know that the issue is settled an cannot bargain their way out of death.
-they experience two types of depression
Reactive Depression - ✅✅ -the feelings of sadness are based on events that have
already occurred.
(end of a job, end of dignity due to medical procedures, and knowing one will never
return home)
Preparatory Depression - ✅✅ -in this depression people feel sadness over future
losses.

- will never see future generations

Acceptance - ✅✅ -this is the final step of dying.
- they are fully aware that death is near
- usually unemotional, uncommunicative, no feelings + or - about the present or
future
- made peace with themselves
- want to be left alone

adulthood. A period of rapid growth in height and weight
Puberty - ✅✅-the period during which the sexual organs mature.
menarche - ✅✅-the onset of menstruation
Leptin - ✅✅-hormone that plays a vital role in puberty
Secular Trend - ✅✅-a pattern of change occurring over several generations.
ex: the earlier start of puberty, earlier start of menstruation, or increased height,
Primary Sex Characteristics - ✅✅ -associated with the development of the organs
and structures of the body that directly relate to reproduction
Ex: for girls are charges in vagina and uterus
Secondary Sex Characteristics - ✅✅-the visible signs of sexual maturity that do not
directly involve the sex organs
ex: development of breasts and pubic hair
Anorexia Nervosa - ✅✅ -a severe eating disorder in which individuals refuse to eat,
while denying that their behavior and appearance, which may become skeletal, are
out of the ordinary

food, followed by purges of the food through vomiting or the use of laxatives
