Lecture 17: Reproductive 1 -Reproductive systems: always locate the bladder first, then what’s around it. -Meiosis is making eggs and sperm, everything else is mitosis -Males testes are outside of the body for thermal regulation -”point and shoot” parasympathetic: erection. sympathetic: ejaculation. -Primary sexual characteristics: things that only men or only women have. -Secondary sexual characteristics: is what happens in puberty. -Endometrium: menstrual cycle - where baby implants, -Myometrium: smooth muscle - what ejects baby when ready -“O,O” ovulation happens in the ovaries -“F,F” fertilization happens in the fallopian tube -implantation happens in the uterus - endometrium Lecture 18: Female Reproductive & Human Development hormones from the brain controls the ovaries, ovaries control the uterus -Follicular phase: FSH tells the ovaries to make estrogen... which tells uterine wall to rebuild -Ovulation: LH causes egg to be ejected into fallopian tube -Luteal phase: LH tells the ovary to make progesterone… which goes to the uterus and has it keep secreting aka the Secretory phase to keep the wall built up in case there’s a baby and waits for the signal hCG: hormone from baby telling body it’s pregnant… If you’re not pregnant, your progesterone levels go down. If they go down, your endometrial wall “sheds” aka the Menstrual phase. The Proliferative phase is your body starting all over
