Carotid triangle
The carotid triangle is a triangular region of the neck defined by the sternocleidomastoid muscle, omohyoid muscle, and anterior midline of the neck. It contains the common carotid artery, internal jugular vein, and vagus nerve. This triangle is clinically significant due to its vital vascular and neural structures. The carotid artery supplies blood to the brain, making it crucial for maintaining cerebral perfusion. The internal jugular vein facilitates venous drainage from the head and neck. The vagus nerve regulates various autonomic functions. Understanding the anatomy of the carotid triangle is essential for managing conditions like carotid artery disease and cervical lymphadenopathy.
