dystopian : An imagined society that is negative in some way, for example an oppressive society. genre : a major category or type of literature literary device : Any method an author uses to add meaning or interest to a text, such as metaphors, similes or alliteration. literary fiction : Fiction written with serious artistic intentions prose : Any writing that is not poetry novel 2 : An extended piece of prose fiction. novella : a short novel or long short story short story : A brief work of fiction cinematic : grand or dramatic; like a film narrative : The sequence of events in a plot; a story. narrator : Person telling the story pathetic fallacy : Technique where the environment (usually the weather) reflects the emotions of the main character. 3 personal pronoun : The pronouns in English (I, you, he, she, it, we, they, me, him, her, us, and them) showing contrasts of person, gender, number, and case. inference : Reading between the lines to work out things which are not explicitly stated in the text. metaphor : A comparison made without using 'like' or 'as', eg 'sea of troubles' and 'drowning in debt'. adjective : A describing word, that modifies a noun contradictions : Opposing or opposite
