Unit 17: Training in the Business Workplace
D3
In this task, I will be evaluating the effectiveness of the Health & Safety training programme at the
organisational level and I will talk about the methods I have used to evaluate the training
programme and I will make some recommendations.
To evaluate the success of the Health & Safety training programme and find out what skills and
knowledge the trainees from the organisational department have gained, I used questionnaire. The
questionnaire I used, had 20 questions all linked with the Health & Safety and the information given
to the employees during the training, such as Health & safety at work act, risk assessments,
assessing hazards etc. This method has helped me to find out what he employees have learnt from
the training programme and to see how successful it has been. I think the questionnaire is an
effective way to evaluate the effectiveness of a training programme, as it allows the trainees to show
their knowledge and skills after the training. As the 20 questions were carefully selected, the
questionnaire has effectively collected the information needed in order to find out if the trainees
have learnt something new and how well they have developed their knowledge during the training. I
think the questionnaire is an appropriate method as it has helped me to gather important
information from the employees and has helped me to find out how effective the training has been
in order to see what improvements will be needed in future when designing and delivering a training
programme. The answers of the questionnaire were collected form all the employees and I have
kept a record of them, so there is an evidence for the Health & Safety training and that the
employees have gone through all the needed procedures and steps of the training. This means that
if there is an unexpected emergency in the company, there will be an evidence that the employees
have done a Health & Safety training and are aware of all the important information about the
safety in the workplace. The questionnaires will be kept in the company for future references, as
they are very important and are proving that the employees at the organisational level have done
the training programme successfully. Overall, I think that the questionnaire was an effective method
of assessing the success of the Health & Safety training programme.
There are also many different methods, that can be used to assess the effectiveness and the success
of a training programme. One of those methods is by using evaluation sheet. The evaluation sheet
can be used to measure the employees’ performance in the workplace and see what they have learn
from the training programme and how they are using the new skills and knowledge when
performing their job. The evaluation sheet will be appropriate, as it will help me to see how effective
the training programme was and what skills and knowledge they have gained. However, sometimes
the evaluation sheet may not give right and clear point of view and may not give accurate reflection
of the knowledge and skills of the employees, which will not be effective for measuring the success
of the training programme.
Another method that can be used to assess the success of the Health & Safety training programme is
by using Questions & Answers at the end of the training. This method would be suitable and
effective as it will allow me to evaluate the knowledge of the employees in regard to the health &
safety. It will also allow me to ask specific and tailored question that will be specifically focused on
the health & safety, which will help me to find out what the employees have specifically learnt and
what knowledge they have gained from the training programme. I think that the Question & Answer
method would be suitable way of assessing the effectiveness of the training programme, as it will
allow the trainees to show their abilities and gained knowledge from the training programme and
show the company how effective the training has been. However, there are some drawbacks of the
question & answer method, because it is just verbal discussion and there will not be any written
evidence that will be kept, which means that if something happens in the company, there will not be
any evidence of the employees having the Health & Safety training. Also, another disadvantage of
using question & answer method is that some employees may not participate in the discussion and
