, Question 1

I have chosen option 1 for my assignment.

Account of issue of discipline in schools:

Discipline in school remains an endless turmoil for the education system. Whilst there
are many discipline systems in place, we need to ask ourselves, is there a way we can
solve the issue for everyone? How do we derive at a system that could benefit the many
discipline issues we face today? In my own experience, I work at a school where
discipline is not really an issue. The school focusses on respect and community, and
because of the small number of students, we manage to foster a community of kindness
on our campus. We manage without a demerit system and no detention. I think there is
something noteworthy about this. With the everchanging world that we face, we
continually need to upskill ourselves and delve into the issues our students face head
on. When I was at school, there was a very different system. At school there was a
demerit system and as soon as you had racked up enough points you were off to
detention. I never landed in detention. However, those who did, we need to ask, what
did they learn from the experience? I think that it is key to find the lesson to learn by
enforcing discipline. Blindly enforcing anything gets us nowhere.

Survey research:

Survey research (Chaing et al, 2015, p 181) is a versatile method which uses both
quantitative and qualitive research. Survey research encompasses two factors, namely:
self-reported data and sampling emphasis. Self-reported data is collected by
researchers asking their participants or respondents to give a direct report on their
feelings, thoughts, and behaviours. This means that the information gathered is based
on true individual experiences and perceptions. Sampling emphasis on the other hand
encompasses the attention that is paid so sampling. Those conducting research must
aim to select a group of participants that are good representatives of a group. This is
where random sampling comes in, and this is preferred. This aids in presenting data
