LEGAL AND HUMANITARIAN
RIGHTS
Unit 3 – Assignment 2

In the following report, I will be going into detail about certain acts and
pieces of legislation and how well they protect the rights of citizens.

Part 1

Human Rights:

United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a milestone document in the
history of human rights. It sets out, for the first time, fundamental
human rights to be universally protected and it has been translated into
over 500 languages.
Recognition of the inherent dignity and the equal and natural rights of all
members of humanity is the foundation of freedom, justice and world
peace, whereas disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in
cruel acts which have insulted the morals of humanity, and the
appearance of a world in which human beings should be able to enjoy the
freedom of speech, belief and the freedom from fear. It is essential that
men and women are not forced to seek refuge, as a last resort, to rebel
against a dictatorship, that the rule of law should protect all human
rights. It is also very important to promote the development of friendly
relations between all nations.
There is a common understanding of these freedoms and rights these are
one of the most significant parts of the act. The articles are explained
below.
Article 1
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are
provided with reason and conscience and should act towards one another
in the spirit of brotherhood.
Article 2
Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms outlined in the
Declaration, without discrimination of any kind, such as race, colour, sex,
language, religion, political or another opinion, national or social origin,
