NEED TO KNOW INFORMATION:
❖ Conceptualising a Research Proposal
What is a research proposal?
• A research proposal is a document outlining a proposed research project.
• You are proposing research. If it gets accepted, you can conduct a research report.
❖ What is the difference between a research proposal and a research report?
Research report: actively investigating the data and reporting your findings
Research proposal: proposing the research for your report. It is the mind map for the
research.
❖ What does a research proposal explain:
WHAT the project is about, WHY the project is important and HOW the project would
be conducted.
• The aim of a research proposal is to allow for the research project to be evaluated
before the researcher conducts the study.
• Research projects have to be planned and evaluated before they are put into action.
That is why we present a research proposal.
HOWEVER, the actual research, in the case of this module, is purely theoretical.
❖ What is a research problem?
You need to find more than just a topic. You need to look at your topic of choice and
pose it as a research problem or question. One in which your research will work
towards.
