Hiya! This is a handwritten, original and unique analysis of Love and relationships poetry when we two parted that helped me achieve 156/160 in my English lit GCSE exam. I wrote these notes on quizlet (it is private so you won't be able to find it there) , hence why it is in that format !!! GOOD LUCK!

1. OVERALL - mostly in accentual verse ; fixed number of stressed
syllables per line until line 5 and 7

- ABAB CDCD; follows the sonnet form until ' thy vows are
all broken' - can show theme of natural pairs

- dactylic meter (1 stressed, 2 unstressed)

2. when we two - the use of the consonant 's' sound invokes a sombre
parted in silence moods and introduces the poem as one full with melan-
and tears choly

- lexical field of grieving 'silence' , 'parted' , 'tears' to
link with the 'knell' later on and shows corpse like state-
detached from the world

- alliteration of 'w' alludes to the writers incapability to talk
properly

-juxtaposition of 'silence' and 'tears'

3. 'silence' - 'silence' and 'tears' have sibilance in the 'c' and 's' sound
to emphasises how he is in almost mourning and grieving
'tears' for the death of his love
- 'silence' to correspond to the emptiness in his heart and
perhaps the sudden stillness of the world as if time itself
has stopped and he is stuck in this awful situation
- has connotation of repression to show how he feels
trapped
- unable to articulate his words, linking with the 'w' alliter-
ation

- 'tears' to explicitly reveal grieving to show his previous
attachment and current vulnerability; he is need of anchor-
age

4. pale grew thy - repetition of cold and the harsh 'k' sound emphasises the
cheek and cold, physical and emotional coldness between them and how
colder thy kiss the love has been lost
