, 1.1 Wat is een supply chain?
Definitie Chopra en Meinl : Een supply chain bestaat uit alle stadia die, direct of indirect, te maken
hebben met het realiseren van het verzoek van de klant. De supply chain bestaat niet alleen uit de
fabrikant en de leveranciers, maar ook uit distributie, warehousing, retailers en klanten.

Definitie Christopher : Een supply chain is het netwerk van organisaties die, via stroomopwaarts en
stroomafwaarts koppelingen, betrokken zijn bij de verschillende processen en activiteiten die waarde
creëren in de vorm van producten en diensten voor de consument.

Over algemeen moet een supply chain bestaan uit minimaal 3 zelfstandige organisaties.

 Korte supply chain : onderneming, leverancier, klant
 Uitgebreide supply chain : onderneming, leverancier, leverancier van de leverancier, klant,
klant van de klant
 Ultieme supply chain : bevat alle koppelingen van oerproducent tot eindgebruiker

← = Informatiestroom

In een supply chain wordt steeds waarde toegevoegd door een volgende schakel voor de
eindgebruiker. Wordt ook wel een value chain genoemd.

Supply chain is erg gericht op het product. Er wordt geproduceerd op een te verwachte vraag zonder
dat de vraag gerealiseerd is. = push-gestuurd

Demand chain is erg gericht op de klant. Er wordt eerst afgewacht wat de vraag is en afhankelijk
daarvan wordt geproduceerd. = pull-gestuurd




Visser & Van Goor zeggen dat supply chain en demand chain allebei een te eenvoudig beeld geven
van hoe het werkelijk is. Een combinatie tussen deze 2 is realistischer = supply network.
