LAN - Answer-Local Area Network, contained to a relatively small small geographic area (school, business, home). WAN - Answer-Wide Area Network. Two or more local area networks connected in a wide spread geographic region Intranet - Answer-A self-contained intra-organizational network that is designed using the same technology as the Internet, but limited to use within the organization. Client/Server Model - Answer-For a local-area network, a hierarchical model in which one or more computers act as dedicated servers and all the remaining computers act as clients. The server fills requests from clients for data transfers and may run applications hosted on the server. Client - Answer-Computer that is connected to a network and requests data from a server. Also called a Node. Node - Answer-Another name for Client on a network. Server - Answer-A computer designated to handle requests for data transfers from client computers on a network. Router - Answer-A device that routes packets between networks based on network-layer addresses; determines the best path across a network. Also are used to connect separate LANs to form a WAN. Hub - Answer-Used to connect network components, like a switch, but less sophisticated.Switch - Answer-a device used to connect components of a network. It is more sophisticated than a hub and can filter and forward data to a specified destination on the network
