Consider some examples of personal stressors as well as daily hassles in your life. How do you
manage or cope with these stressors? Do you use different coping strategies to address different
types of stress such as personal stressors versus daily hassles? Explain.
Hello Class,
Like every other person living, my personal stressors come mostly from my day to day activities
such as work, finishing errands and financial troubles. I currently work as a copier repair technician. My
work stresses come from troubleshooting machines, deadlines, and making sure things stay organized.
To deal with my stresses from work I repeatedly remind myself to practice mindfulness and to stay
present. Some may also see this as controlling your inner dialogue (Singer, 2013), although I see it as just
reminding yourself to be thankful for what you have and to keep persisting to get through the rough
times. For my personal stresses I like to deal with them preemptively by forcing myself to do things that I
may dread doing, such as, running, brushing my dog every day and doing yard work. This strategy comes
from the idea that if and when I force myself to do things that are unsavory to me, that I can enjoy the
things I really like to do that much more with a lot of stress lifted off of my shoulders.
Best Regards,
Shayne Garza
