Suggest, with justifications, ways of improving
motivation in an organisational setting
Introduction:
In this part of the task it is going to be suggested how different ways of
motivation can be improved in British Airways organisation and than to justify
those ways with examples in order to make it clear.
The current motivational situation in British Airways in their workforce is low at
the moment due to the fact of presence of high turnover rate and also of
presence of absenteeism. In fact , British Airways needs to look deeper in
Maslow’s hierarchy and Mayo’s theory of human relation in order to improve
their motivational setting in their employees. This will enable the employees to
be motivated as they can be getting promotions for their good work.As a result
the British Airways employees will not think of leaving the company as the
company will meet all their needs. Also the company can motivate their staff by
putting them to work more in teams. If they are working in teams they will get
to know their colleagues better which will help them to work better in the
company’s environment by showing an increase in finishing tasks faster or on
time. Also, they will develop better understanding that will lift up the
performance of the organisation.
Shorter working hours and workplace security
Another factor that does not motivate the employees are long hour shifts and
poor workplace security. In fact , a solution for this is situation is Herzberg's
two-factor theory. In order to make those employees at least happy ,the
company has to think of interesting work that is going to keep them motivated
and interested. Also, by cutting down their long tedious shifts to normal sized
shifts and give then different task every day is another solution to motivate
them to work and to stay for longer within the company. In addition, the
company has to provide them with facilities in order to make them feel relaxed
and comfortable which is linked to the concept of breaks by Taylor. When
British Airways will do all this it will make the employee feel good about their
jobs and therefore they will not want to leave the company for long.Another
point is the Hygiene factor that can provide security to the employees
especially to those who work at night.British Airways is the organisation that
operates 24 hours out of 7 days.In fact their stewards or pilots are obliged to
work during the night which will advantage them to ask to be in permanent
security by the company. So British Airways must try to provide as much
security as possible to all its employees so that they are not intimidated at any
point of the day while working.
New recruitment
By researching British Airways company ,i found out that they have a decline in
their standards that is due to their lack of motivation. In fact they need to boost
up their work force by understanding the social aspect of the strategies that
they used to implement when their company has high standards .If Mayo,
Maslow and Herzberg's theories are implemented in a proper way in British
Airways the organisation can be up and running within a few days. New
recruitment from all around the world will also work as a catalyst in this
scenario.New workforce coming from abroad will make the working
motivation in an organisational setting
