DAANCE Module 3- Anesthetic Drugs and Techniques with Accurate Solution
DAANCE Module 3- Anesthetic Drugs and Techniques with Accurate Solution 1. Post-Anesthesia Discharge instructions: Vital signs 2 = within 20% of preoperative value 1 = 20-40% preoperative value 0 = 40% preoperative value Ambulation 2 = stead gait/no dizziness 1= with assistance 0 = none/dizziness N/V 2 = minimal 1 = moderate 0 = severe Surgical bleeding 2 = minimal 1 = moderate 0 = severe Total score is 10; patients who score > 9 are considered fit for discharge 2. The primary goal for outpatient intravenous office anesthesia (4): 1. Analge- sia 2. Amnesia 3. Relaxation and immobility 4. Loss of consciousness (hypnosis) 3. Basic requisites of an anesthetic agents: 1. The agent should lack toxicity 2. The agent must be non flammable 3. The agent must possess minimal allergenicity 4. The agent should preferably be non addictive 4. Pharmacodynamics: The effect that the body has on the drugs, or what the body does to the drug 5. Drug effectiveness: For a drug to be effective it must be absorbed into the body and distributed to the site of action. It must then be metabolized and eliminated from the body to terminate its effects 6. Drug absorption sites (6): 1. Gastrointestinal tract 2. Pulmonary 3. Circulatory system 4. Musculoskeletal 5. Transmucosal 6. Transdermal 7. oral medications absorption site: Gastrointestinal 8. intravenous absorption site: Circulatory system 9. intramuscular absorption site: Musculoskeletal 10. intraoral, intranasal, rectal absorption site: Transmucosal 11. through the skin absorption site: Transdermal 12. inhalation agents absorption site: Pulmonary 13. Where does topical and local anesthetics exert their effects?: The site of absorption 14. Redistribution of drugs: When the body moves it to another location As redistribution occurs, the effects of the drugs on the brain receptors (site of action) diminishes 15. Fast redistribution drugs: 1. Propofol 2. Brevital 16. Slow redistribution drugs: Valium 17. Metabolization of drugs: Occurs in the liver and through the use of enzymes, sometimes metabolism occurs in the plasma 18. Where is Anectine (succinylcholine) metabolized?: Plasma enzyme pseudo- cholinesterase
