Michigan Cosmetology State Board Rules and Regulations Study Guide A School Must Display These Three Things - Price List, Enrolled Student List, Sign Designating it's a School Licensed School Sign - Must be displayed at all physical locations for which it is licensed. If it is a branch, it must also display the main location address too. A School May Not Operate as a(n) - Establishment ~ but it may service clients for teaching purposes if it advertises that the work is done soley by senior students. School means (from the Act) - School of Cosmetology as defined in sec 1201 (p) of the Act and may include a branch facility. Branch facility - is another location Establishment - a business, other than a school where services are offered School Inspection - A school is inspected twice a year Salon inspection - A salon is inspected once a year School Supervisor - must be a Senior instructor with no less than 3 years experience. Permanent Records for Students - Shall be kept for 7 years An Instructor who transfers to another school - Shall notify the Board within 5 days School hours shall not be more than - 7 hours a day or 40 hours per week School Bond Amount - $10,000.00 Students must pay - A registration Fee Schools must submit this record monthly - Accumulated Student Hours Student Records Must Include - Attendance, Contract, Progress Reports Student / Instructor Ratio - 20 to 1 Price List Postings - Must be posted in every room where services are performed Services for Patrons provided by - Any Senior Student A Student Must have (Grade Education Requirement ) - At least a 9th Grade Education Student Age Requirement - 16 years of age LOA before reregistering - Max 5 months MPAs (Minimum Practical Applications) - Services performed on a Mannequin, another student or customer Cosmetology Student Can Practice on the General Public - After Completing 350 hours An Apprentice of Cosmetology Must Complete X months before applying to the Board - 24 months A Student of Cosmetology may complete the course in X months - 10 Months Within the last 300 hours of cosmetology training - 35 hours are spent in review School training hours vs Apprentice Training hours - shall not be cross-credited A cosmetology establishment must have this to have an apprentice - A list of equipment Junior Student of Junior Apprentice Cannot - Work on the General Public Senior Student or Senior Apprentice - Are qualified to work on the general public All Students Must Wear - A uniform and Nametag Cosmetology Length of Program (Term) - 1500 hours Cosmetology Trainer Program Length - 500 hours Electrologists Training Program Length - 400 hours Esthetician Program Length - 400 hours
